New Dj Mix >>> Slugplates Vol 5

Ez people.... it’s all been happening here, the launch of the label is going well with the downloads clocking up everyday... thank you if you've grabbed the Counter Motion EP (if you haven't check the post below)...

The plans for 002 are already in place; things are just being finalised and it’s scheduled to be out in August 2010, but more on that later!

To keep things moving, I've done a new DJ mix featuring 2 of the tracks from the Counter Motions EP, along with a selection of both old and new classic dubstep tunes.

Mix 5 from the Slugplates Series is available here for free download...

Cogent - Slugplates Vol 5 by Cogent

>>> Slugplates the label is launched !!!!!!

I’m proud to announce the long overdue launch of my label...Slugplates

The label was originally put on hold a few years back, due to other demands, but I’ve finally decided now is the right time to get things moving.

Slugplates 001 is a 4 track EP by myself and will be released for free. Followers of Cogent might be familiar with a couple of the tracks on the release, as they have featured in both my mixes and mixes by other headz from the dubstep & grime scenes.

Some of you might have been expecting the EP out on another label; in brief I don’t think this was ever going to happen and the experience has helped me make the decision to get my label up and running... See the post below for more on that!

Essentially I will be looking to release sounds that might be slightly left of centre from the dubstep, electronica or garage scenes; hopefully providing an alternative take on bass driven electronic music. I will be building the label up over time and will be looking for artists, designers, DJ’s etc so if you wanna get involved hit me up!

So anyways SP001 is out now, and I’ve decided to give the first release away for free so feel free to pass the link around, host on blogs etc! The more exposure the better!

Cogent – Counter Motions EP [SP 001]

The selection is a melting pot of sounds; fusing raw beats, twisted basslines, haunted atmospherics and spacious melodies, giving the listener an alternative take on the sound of dubstep.

Fakers!

Well it happens to most artists at some point in their career and it’s now happened to me. I’ve just spent the best part of 6 months working with a new ‘record label’ only for the joker who was ‘running’ it to realise his get rich quick scheme, wasn’t going to get him rich.

It’s a massive shame he didn’t see the potential he had, after ‘signing’ a selection of quality artists that could have helped establish his project in the dubstep scene. Instead he took the easy option and has thrown in the towel, realising to work in the music industry takes dedication, hard work and some financial backing to promote your artists. Thankfully for me I was able to get out before he tried to release and earn money from my music.

Like other challenges I’ve overcome in my life, the experience has made me more determined to continue doing what I’ve always done; write music for me and to choose the ‘right’ people to work with. Making music is the easy bit; it’s a love and something I’ve done since the age of 14 and while I’m physically and mentally able, making music is something that I will always do. Unfortunately it’s the latter part which proves to be difficult, especially when you put your trust and belief in people you assumed knew what they was doing.

If you have read this post and are looking for more dirt and drama, it’s not going to happen as I’m not going to start mentioning names and slagging people off on the internet, there is already far too much of that. Followers will know who I’m talking about and you can make whatever you want from this post.

In the meantime I’ve been busy sorting out the long overdue launch of my own label. The release that was supposed to be coming out on the said label will still be coming out. I’ve decided to make this the first release on my new Slugplates label, and I will be giving the EP away for free but more on that later...

Being the arty type, I tried to find a quote to some up this experience and found this one by a true legend!
